CALHOUN, GA’S FAVORITE ORTHODONTIST

If you are a parent seeking braces and orthodontic treatment for your child, you may have questions. While your questions will be best answered by Dr. Baker during your child’s Baker Smile Analysis, here are a few of the most frequently asked questions.

Will Braces Limit My Child's Diet?

With most of our treatment options, yes. In order to stay on the projected timeline for your child’s treatment, the braces would need to remain on the teeth without the brackets popping off or archwire bending or breaking. The most common culprit for prolonged treatment is eating foods that damage the appliance. Dr. Baker will be able to give you a full list of foods your child will need to avoid while in braces.

However, we do offer a treatment option for straight teeth that doesn’t limit your child’s diet. With Invisalign®, your child will remove the trays to eat and drink, so they won’t have the same limitations as they would with traditional metal braces with brackets.

Will Braces Limit My Child's Sports Or Musical Activity?

Braces will not limit your child’s sports activities or instrumental participation. For sports, we recommend using a braces-ready mouth guard to protect both your child’s mouth from the braces, as well as the appliance from becoming damaged from forceful contact. For instruments, your child will quickly adjust to the appliance and play as he or she always has.

When Is The Right Time To Bring My Child To An Orthodontist In Calhoun, Ga?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child has their first orthodontic visit around age 7. Don’t worry, we won’t be putting braces on them right away! At their first appointment at 7, we are able to determine an expectation for development and growth, and intervene if necessary to help with treatment later on.

How Often Will I Need To Bring My Child In For An Adjustment?

We work as best as we can to ensure you and your child miss as little work and school as necessary. That being said, you can expect to have an adjustment appointment once every 4-8 weeks until treatment is complete. With some of our braces, your child will be able to have their braces off sooner, reducing the overall number of visits necessary to have your child smiling confidently.
